EXPRESS ENTRY
The Provincial Nominee Programs
The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. Almost every province, except for Nunavut and Quebec, have their own PNPs to suit their local needs. The PNPs may offer unique immigration opportunities for applicants who have qualifications that a province is looking for.
Many of our clients approach us with an interest in the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP). Through the OINP, the province will nominate foreign workers, international students, in-demand workers who possess the skills, experience, and education required and who intend to settle in Ontario as Permanent Residents.
The OINP contains various streams that are aimed at skilled workers, recent graduates, and entrepreneurs who are looking to come to Canada. These programs are a great way for those wanting to settle permanently in Ontario to obtain Permanent Residence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sponsorship
A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident living in Canada who is at least 18 years old may sponsor their family member. However, you are restricted from being a sponsor if:
- You won’t be living in Canada when the person you are sponsoring becomes a permanent resident.
- You are a temporary resident or your permanent residence application is pending.
- You were sponsored by a spouse or partner, and you became a permanent resident less than 5 years ago.
- You are still financially responsible for a previous spouse or partner you sponsored.
- You have already applied to sponsor someone and the decision is still pending.
- You signed a sponsorship undertaking for a previous spouse/common-law partner and it has been under 3 years since they became a permanent resident.
There are other criteria that may restrict you from being a sponsor, please book a consultation to learn more.
Under the Family Class Sponsorship program, you may be able to sponsor your spouse or common-law partner who lives outside Canada, your dependent children (biological or adopted children), your parents or grandparents, your orphaned grandchildren or other orphaned blood-related relatives including your siblings who are under 18. If your spouse or common-law partner are living in Canada, you may also sponsor them under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner In-Canada Program (SCLPC).
The Sponsor is required to enter into an undertaking agreement with the Minister to provide financial support for the sponsored person’s basic needs, including food and shelter during the undertaking period. This is to ensure the sponsored person would not need to apply for the Canadian government’s social assistance. The undertaking period is different for different family members.
Sponsoring your spouse from outside Canada is part of the Family Class Sponsorship Program, whereas sponsoring your spouse or common-law partner inside Canada is part of a public policy under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act s 25. Under this policy, your spouse or common-law partner can apply for permanent residence from within Canada even if they are out-of-status and they may be entitled to apply for an open work permit once they have received the Acknowledge of Receipt from IRCC of their application. However, the in-land applicants do not have right of appeal if their application is refused, unlike the applicants under the Family Class whose sponsors can appeal to the Immigration Appeal Department in case the application is refused.
To determine which pathway is the best in your circumstances, please book a consultation to discuss with our consultant.
Depending on who you are sponsoring, the processing time under the Family Class Sponsorship program may vary widely. Other factors affecting the processing time may include: the number of applications being processed at any given time, the backlog at IRCC. So, we advise you to check the processing times on the Government of Canada’s website to get the most current information. However, with our expertise and extensive experience, we ensure that we help you complete your application accurately and efficiently, reducing any delays in the process.
